Detroit Tigers Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Detroit Tigers picked up a 5-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates today to get back to .500 in Grapefruit League play. Before the game, they had sent Matt Manning and Tyler Mattison to Triple-A Toledo and reassigned Ricky Vanasco to minor league camp. Now they’ve cut the roster to 51 as they have optioned right-handed pitchers Chase Lee and Tyler Owens to Triple-A Toledo. Right-handed pitcher Ryan Miller has also been assigned to minor league camp.

Chase Lee

Lee appeared in five games going 0-1 this spring. He posted a 14.73 ERA, a 2.18 WHIP, and had four strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Lee was a part of a trade with the Texas Rangers. In 17 appearances at Triple-A Toledo, he went 1-3. Lee posted a 3.27 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and had 31 strikeouts in 22 innings. 

Tyler Owens

Owens this spring in four appearances went 1-0. He pitched 3.1 shutout innings allowing just two hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out four. Also acquired from Texas last season. He pitched at Double-A Erie going 1-3 in 13 appearances. Owens posted a 3.31 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and had 20 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.

Ryan Miller 

Miller had a rough spring making three appearances going 0-1 with a 22.50 ERA. In two innings of work, he allowed five runs on four hits. Miller walked two and struck out one. He spent last season with the Los Angeles Angels. Miller appeared in 13 games for the Angels he went 0-1. He posted a 4.15 ERA, a 1.62 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in 13 innings. He also pitched at Triple-A Lake Bee for the Angels. In 34 appearances one of which was a start, he went 5-1. Miller posted a 2.45 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and had 61 strikeouts in 62.1 innings.
