Detroit Tigers Roster Moves 1/22

Detroit Tigers Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Detroit Tigers are only 23 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training. This offseason, they have focused on bolstering their starting pitching, which on paper looks good enough to compete in the American League Central and their lineup; in addition to that, they overall look good enough to win the division. Today, they made a trade, sending a player to the Baltimore Orioles who struggled last year and didn’t fit into the bigger picture that the Tigers are looking at, which is returning to the playoffs. The move was sending Tyler Nevin to the Orioles for cash considerations, which gives the Tigers maybe a chance to go sign a third baseman, which is something that has been mentioned as somewhat of a need this offseason.

Tyler Nevin By The Numbers

Nevin was initially drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2015. He made his major league debut on May 29, 2021, with the Orioles. He played in six games that season, slashing .286/.444/.643 with a 1.087 OPS and a 194 OPS+. Before making his debut, he spent time in the Rockies and Orioles system; the highest level he reached at Colorado was Double-A. He was included in the Mychal Givens trade back in 2020 that sent him to Baltimore. On New Year’s Day in 2023, he was purchased by the Tigers and spent a majority of the season in Triple-A Toledo and slashed .326/.400/.543 with a .943 OPS; he had 22 doubles, three triples, 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 63 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 38 walks. With the Tigers, he slashed .200/.306/.316 with a .622 OPS; he had three doubles, one triple, two home runs, ten RBI, 11 runs scored, and 12 walks.
