The Cleveland Guardians sit in first place in the American League Central entering play today with a 22-12 record. They took two of three from the Los Angeles Angels and now will host the Detroit Tigers to start the week. They end the week with a four-game series on the road against the Chicago White Sox starting Thursday, May 9th. Today before taking on the Tigers they have announced four roster moves.
LHP – Sam Hentges
The Guardians have activated Hnetges from the 15-day injured list. he was sent on the injured list back on March 28th with left middle finger inflammation. He has pitched in six games in the minors during his rehab assignments. He has one win over three starts, pitching 6.2 innings. He has allowed two hits, three walks, and struck out seven. In the Minors, he has a 0.75 WHIP and a 0.00 ERA while rehabbing.
RHP – Peter Strzelecki
The Guardians have optioned Strzelecki to the Columbus Clippers today. He has only appeared in three games for the Guardians this year pitching in four innings only. He has not allowed an earned run yet and has a WHIP of 1.00.
OF – Steven Kwan
The Guardians have placed Kwan on the 10-day injured list retroactive to May 5th, 2024 with a left hamstring strain. Kwan has 28 runs scored, 47 hits, six doubles, two triples, three home runs. 11 RBIs, 11 walks, 11 strikeouts, and three steals on the season. He is slashing .353/.407/.496 with a .903 OPS for the Guardians.
1B – Kyle Manzardo
The Guardians have selected the contract of Manzardo from the Columbus Clippers today. While in Triple-A he has played in 29 games with 25 runs scored, 33 hits, 10 doubles, nine home runs, 20 RBIs, 15 walks, and 22 strikeouts. He is slashing .303/.375/.642 with a 1.017 OPS on the year.
Wrap Up:
Well, losing Kwan is less than ideal obviously for the division-leading Guardians, but the call-up of the highly touted Kyle Manzardo hopefully will soften the blow as they add the talented bat to the lineup. Manzardo is the 55th-ranked prospect for ITD and should get a decent look with this call-up from Triple-A. Hentges coming back to the big league club should also give the pitching staff a boost as he has been impressive in his rehab assignment. The Guardians have a two-and-a-half-game lead right now and look to distance themselves over the next seven games while taking on division foes.
