The Reds enter today with a 49-53 record and are in 4th place in the National League Central. They are set to take on the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa this weekend. After this weekend’s series, they will head back home to take on the Chicago Cubs for three games, before hosting the San Francisco Giants for three games. The Reds are currently four and a half games out of the last wild card spot but are presumably sellers this year at the deadline. Ahead of the first game with the Rays, the team has announced four roster moves.
OF – TJ Friedl
The Reds have activated TJ from the 10-day injured list ahead of today’s game. He has spent more time on the injured list than he has in games with the Reds unfortunately this year, but hopefully, this last trip for a hamstring strain will be the last of it. He has appeared in 26 games so far this year with 14 runs scored, two doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs, and six stolen bases, and has slashed .216/.315/.361 with a .676 OPS when on the field for the Reds.
OF – Rece Hinds
The Reds have optioned Hinds back to Triple-A to play for the Louisville Bats. Hinds was very productive for the Reds during this call-up from Triple-A, he played in 10 games with 38 at-bats, seven runs scored, four doubles, one triple, five home runs, 11 RBIs, two stolen bases, and slashed .316/.350/.868 with a 1.218 OPS. It’s too bad to see Hinds be sent back down, but he has tailed off some in his last seven games, slashing .231/.286/.654.
SS – Tyson Lewis
The Reds have signed their second-round draft pick from this year’s draft Tyson Lewis today.
RHP – Edgar Colon
The Reds have signed their 11th-round draft pick from this year’s draft today the High School RHP pitcher Edgar Colon.
Overview
This has not been the season that TJ Friedl has hoped for along with the rest of the Reds organization, but perhaps Friedl and the Reds can get hot again in the last two months of the year and ruin some other teams’ playoff hopes. I would not be the least bit surprised to see them move one of their arms during the trade deadline as they build towards 2025 when hopefully they can all return to good health as a team. For now, let’s just hope we see some good baseball in the last two months and watch Elly De La Cruz continue his great season.
