Luke Little
Little’s struggles continued with his control while in the majors. While he has been pitching well in Triple-A, his poor command continued in the big leagues. He issuef four walks and only was able to record two outs in his outing Wednesday against the Padres. He head back to Iowa with a 13.65 ERA with the Cubs.
Jordan Wicks
The lefty will be making his 2025 season debut. After starting the 2024 season in the starting rotation. An oblique injury caused him to miss time and the success Javier Asaad had made it easy for the Cubs to keep Wicks in Triple-A late last season. He finished 2024 with 10 starts with a 2-4 record and a 5.48ERA. Wicks had a .291 batting average against and a 1.63 WHIP. He’s made two starts for the Iowa Cubs without factoring in a decision. He has 3.55 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and a .239 batting average against in 12.2 innings worked.
Summary
While the Cubs don’t appear to have a hole in the rotation with Colin Rea filling in for the injured Justin Steele. They could be planning to use Wicks as a long relief arm. Depending on how he performs perhaps he and Rea could provide Craig Counsell a unique option to use them based on matchups as openers for one another in the future. For that to happen Wicks will need to impress early on or he could suffer a similar fate as Little with a trip back to Iowa.
