Chicago Cubs: Down on the Farm 4/22-4/29

Chicago Cubs Top 10 Prospects Check-In

OF – Pete Crow-Armstrong – Iowa Cubs

Crow-Armstrong played five games for the Chicago Cubs after being called up to the big league club to replace Cody Bellinger who was placed on the 10-day injured list. He ended up making four starts for the Cubs in Center last week. He had one double, one home run, four RBIs, two runs scored, and struck out three times for the Cubs. While with the Iowa Cubs, he has been slashing .203/.241/.392 with a .633 OPS on the year in Triple-A.

RHP – Cade Horton – Tennessee Smokies

Horton made one start over the last seven days. He pitched five innings earning the win, allowing five hits, one free pass, and struck out six. He had a 1.00 WHIP on the day and a 0.00 ERA. On the year he has pitched in 16.1 innings with one win and no losses. He has a 1.10 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP on the year with Tennessee. He should make his next start on Friday, May 3rd against Biloxi.

OF – Owen Caissie – Iowa Cubs

Caissie played six games in this series. He had 18 at-bats, three runs scored, seven hits, one double, three RBIs, six walks, nine Ks, and slashed ..389/.542/.444 with a .986 OPS On the series.

1B – Michael Busch – Chicago Cubs

Michael Busch played in all the games in the last seven Cubs. He had 25 at-bats, four runs scored, four hits, one double, two RBIs, one walk, 13 strikeouts, and slashed .160/.207/.200 with a .407 OPS.

OF – Kevin Alcantara – Tennessee Smokies

Alcantara played in five games in the last seven days for the Smokies. He had 22 at-bats with three runs scored, six hits, one double, two home runs, three RBIs, one steal, and five strikeouts in the last seven days. He slashed .273/.273/.591 with a .864 OPS.

2B/3B – Matt Shaw – Tennessee Smokies

Shaw played in five of the Smokies’ games this past week. He had 18 at-bats, three runs scored, two hits, one RBI, one walk, seven strikeouts, and two stolen bases. He slashed .111/.190/.111 with an OPS of .301.

2B – James Triantos – Tennessee Smokies

Triantos played in six games for the Cubs in the last seven days. He had 23 at-bats, four runs scored, eight hits, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, five RBIs, one strikeout, and two stolen bases. He slashed .348/.333/.783 with a 1.116 OPS on the week.

P – Jordan Wicks – Chicago Cubs

Jordan Wicks made one start in the last seven days for the Cubs, working six innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, one home run, and four strikeouts. He had a 3.00 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP. He was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain.

RHP – Ben Brown – Chicago Cubs

Brown appeared in two games in the last seven days. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits, three earned runs, one home run, no walks, and striking out four.

1B – Moises Ballerestos – Tennesee Smokies

Ballesteros played in five of the games this week. He had 17 at-bats, two runs scored, seven hits, one double, one home run, three RBIs, three walks, four strikeouts, and slashed .412/.500/.647 with a 1.147 OPS this week.

The Week Ahead:

Iowa Cubs (15-12)

In their six-game series, the Iowa Cubs went 2-4 against the Buffalo Bisons last week. They will host the Omaha Storm Chasers for a six-game series next against the Triple-A affiliate for the Kansas City Royals.

The Tennessee Smokies split the series on the road against the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Angels’ Double-A affiliate 3-3. They now will host the Biloxi Shuckers for a six-game series the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Watch out for Jacob Misiorowski in this series he is an elite arm and ranked 39th in the ITD top 100 prospects.
