The Boston Red Sox have swung a deal after missing out on Juan Soto and Max Fried as they are acquiring Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for catcher Kyle Teel who is ranked as the 26th overall prospect by the ITD, outfielder Braden Montogmery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and RHP Wikelman Gonzalez.

LHP – Garrett Crochet
Crochet will be 25 on opening day and will turn 26 on June 21st. He is entering his fifth big league season after being drafted with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. In his first three seasons, he pitched out of the bullpen going 3-7 with a 2.71 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 85 strikeouts in 73 innings. In 2024 he transitioned to becoming a starter making 32 starts going 6-12 on a bad Chicago White Sox team with a 3.58 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 209 strikeouts in 146 innings. The expectation is that now with him stretched out for a full season he can pitch over 160 innings in 2025 which made him an intriguing option for the Red Sox.
C – Kyle Teel
Teel was drafted by the Red Sox 14th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. In his first season with the Red Sox system, he appeared in 26 games hitting .363 with a .977 OPS; he had six doubles, two home runs, 22 RBI, 15 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 21 walks. In 2024 in 112 games between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, he hit .288 with a .819 OPS; he had 23 doubles, 13 home runs, 78 RBI, 88 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 68 walks.
OF – Braden Montgomery
Montgomery was drafted by the Red Sox with the 12th overall pick in this past draft. He was rehabbing following being drafted and didn’t play in the Red Sox system.

INF – Chase Meidroth
Meidroth was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Red Sox. In 2022 in 22 games, he hit .316 with a .977 OPS; he had five doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI, 19 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 14 walks. In 2023 in 111 games he hit .271 with a .799 OPS; he had 19 doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 57 RBI, 78 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 80 walks. In 2024 at Triple-A Worcester in 122 games he hit .293 with a .838 OPS; he had 20 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 57 RBI, 87 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 105 walks.
RHP – Wikelman Gonzalez
Gonzalez has been in the Red Sox system since 2019 making 100 appearances with 94 of those coming as a start going 21-15 with a 3.97 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, a 0.5 HR/9, a 4.8 BB/9, and an 11.3 K/9. In 2024 at Double-A Portland he went 4-3 in 24 appearances with 19 of those coming as starts posting a 4.73 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts in 83.2 innings.
