Boston Red Sox Set Position Players

The Boston Red Sox today set their position players for the start of the 2026 regular season. The Red Sox today optioned infielders Nate Eaton and Mickey Gasper to Triple-A Worcester. That means Andruw Monasterio and Connor Wong made the roster to start the season. The roster for position players will have catchers Carlos Narvaez and Wong. Infielders Triston Casas, Willson Contreras, Caleb Durbin, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Marcelo Mayer, Monasterio, and Trevor Story. Outfielders Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Mastaka Yoshida. Infielder Romy Gonzalez will start the season on the injured list.

Nate Eaton

Eaton this spring in 12 games hit .281 with a .730 OPS. He had two doubles, a triple, four RBI, four runs scored, and two stolen bases. He played for Great Britain in the World Baseball Classic. In four games, he hit .316 with a .895 OPS. He had two doubles, a home run, an RBI, four runs scored, and a stolen base. Last season in 94 games at Worcester, he hit .290 with an .855 OPS. He had 25 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 55 RBI, 64 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases. In 41 games with Boston, he hit .296 with a .731 OPS. He had four doubles, a home run, four RBI, 16 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.

Mickey Gasper

Gasper this spring in 16 games hit .345 with a 1.062 OPS. He had a triple, two home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored. In 45 games with the Twins last season, he hit .158 with a .488 OPS. He had a double, two home runs, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored, and two stolen bases. In 47 games at Triple-A, he hit .285 with a .915 OPS. He had 14 doubles, ten home runs, 26 RBI, 32 runs scored, and two stolen bases.

Andruw Monasterio

Monasterio in 15 games this spring he has hit .313 with an .879 OPS. He has two doubles, a home run, five RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. In 68 games with the Brewers last season, he hit .270 with a .755 OPS. He had nine doubles, four home runs, 16 RBI, 19 runs scored, and two stolen bases. In 30 games at Triple-A, he hit .250 with a .757 OPS. He had six doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI, 18 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.

Connor Wong

Wong, in 12 games this spring, hit .074 with a .268 OPS. He had two RBI and a run scored. In 63 games with the Red Sox, he hit .190 with a .500 OPS. He had eight doubles, seven RBI, 16 runs scored, and two stolen bases. In three games at Worcester, he hit .364 with a 1.156 OPS. He had a double, a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. His last big league home run came on September 8, 2024.
