The Boston Red Sox today will take on the Houston Astros in the first game of their four-game series. They are coming off a series split with the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox after this coming weekend will face teams who are at the bottom of the standings in the Wild Card and could take advantage to make up ground on the Kansas City Royals who are facing teams in a playoff spot in that stretch. Before tonight’s game, the Red Sox recalled Greg Weissert from Triple-A Worcester and optioned Bailey Horn to Worcester.

RHP – Greg Weissert

Weissert this season has appeared in 45 games for the Red Sox going 2-2 with a 4.24 ERA, a 4.19 FIP, a 1.44 WHIP, a 3.3 BB/9, and a 9.1 K/9 in 46.2 innings. In his big league career, he’s appeared in 74 games going 5-2 with a 4.38 ERA, a 4.23 FIP, a 1.37 WHIP, a 3.5 BB/9, and a 9.2 K/9 in 78 innings. Since being optioned he’s appeared in four games for Worcester, he hadn’t recorded a decision with a 1.50 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, a 3.0 BB/9, and a 9.1 K/9 in six innings.

LHP – Bailey Horn

Horn has appeared in 14 games going 1-1 with the Red Sox this season, he has a 6.48 ERA, a 5.98 FIP, a 1.62 WHIP, a 3.8 BB/9, and a 7.0 K/9 in 16.2 innings. At Worcester, he appeared in 15 games with one of those coming as a start going 1-2 with a 1.74 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, a 4.4 BB/9, and a 10.0 K/9 in 20.2 innings.
