Ali Sánchez Activated to Boost Catching Depth
The Red Sox have activated catcher Ali Sánchez, gaining an experienced backup behind the plate. Sánchez, who in only eight games for the Blue Jays, hitting .238 with a .571 OPS.
Jovani Moran Joins from Triple-A Worcester
In a strategic bullpen move, Boston selected left-handed reliever Jovani Moran from Triple-A Worcester. Moran brings swing-and-miss potential, with a 14.9 K/9 rate in Triple-A this season. The Red Sox are going to keep rotating arms to keep the bullpen fresh.
Hamilton and Murphy Optioned to Worcester
To make room on the roster, infielder David Hamilton and left-hander Chris Murphy were both optioned to Triple-A Worcester. Hamilton has struggled at the plate, batting just .174 in 69 games. Meanwhile, Murphy posted a 3.05 ERA in 20.2 innings and will look to regain consistency in the minors.
Nick Burdi Designated for Assignment
The team designated right-handed reliever Nick Burdi was for assignment. Burdi appeared in just four games for Boston, and didn’t allow an earned run. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Moran.
