The Boston Red Sox dropped the series opener to the Cincinnati Reds last night by a score of 5-2. The game started with the two teams combining to hit five solo home runs with the Reds hitting three and the Red Sox hitting two making it 3-2 Reds, then a tough play made by Cam Booser on a bunt in which he flipped the ball over Connor Wong’s glove allowing the runners on second and third to score making it 5-2 resulting in that being the final. The Red Sox today got a bat back to their lineup as they are activating Wilyer Abreu from the injured list and with that they are optioning Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester.

Red Sox Roster Moves By The Numbers

OF – Wilyer Abreu

Abreu made his debut last season playing in 28 games he hit .316 with a .862 OPS; he has six doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI, ten runs scored, three stolen bases, and nine walks. His success in 2023 led to expectations of him taking a step forward in 2024, he got off to a slow start but found his grove before he suffered his injury, he had played in 53 games this season hitting .272 with a .829 OPS; he has 14 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 22 RBI, 26 runs scored, seven stolen bases, and 19 walks. While rehabbing at Worcester he played in three games hitting .250 with a 1.058 OPS; he had two home runs, two RBI, three runs scored, and a walk.

1B – Bobby Dalbec

Dalbec is on his third stint with the Red Sox in his most recent one he has gone 2-26 with a home run, three RBI, one run scored, four walks, and a stolen base. This season with the Red Sox he’s played in 37 games hitting .133 with a .410 OPS; he has two doubles, one home run, eight RBI, six runs scored, three stolen bases, and eight walks. At Worcester he’s played in 26 games hitting .245 with a .860 OPS; he has five doubles, eight home runs, 21 RBI, 19 runs scored, and 13 walks.
