Boston Red Sox Roster Moves 4/24

Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox are coming off a loss to the Cleveland Guardians last night 4-1 to drop to 13-11. Tonight, they will play the middle game with Cooper Criswell getting the ball tonight as he takes on Carlos Carrasco for the Guardians. The Red Sox are now 1-4 against the Guardians this season with last night’s loss. Today the injury bug bit them again with them already being without Trevor Story, Vaughn Grissom, Triston Casas, Rafael Devers (he’s back tonight), Lucas Giolito, Garrett Whitlock, and Nick Pivetta. Today they placed RHP Brayan Bello on the 15-Day Injured List with right lat tightness and with that they have called up RHP Zack Kelly to take his spot on the roster.

Red Sox Moves By The Numbers

RHP – Brayan Bello

Bello in last season started to make his jump going 12-11 with a 4.54 FIP, a 1.33 WHIP, and 132 strikeouts in 157 innings. Before the season started the Red Sox extended him to a six-year extension worth $55 million. To start the season, he is 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA, a 4.06 FIP, a 1.05 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. In his last start against the Pirates, he was dominant going six innings, he didn’t allow a run on one hit; he walked two and struck out seven. His Injured List stint is retroactive to April 21st which puts him able to come back May 6th, he was supposed to get the ball tomorrow night against the Guardians, so it’ll be interesting to see who replaces him in that situation.

RHP – Zack Kelly

Kelly has been in the Red Sox system since 2021 spending time at Single-A, High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. He made a stint with the Red Sox in 2022 appearing in 13 games going 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA, a 4.28 FIP, a 1.31 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in 13.2 innings. Last season he appeared in eight games going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA, a 5.18 FIP, a 1.60 WHIP, and six strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
