The Boston Red Sox yesterday had a split-squad game with one half of the roster taking on the New York Yankees and they won 12-6 behind a nine-run first innings, the other half tied the Atlanta Braves 3-3. Today the Red Sox will take on the Minnesota Twins with Nick Pivetta on the mound making his fourth start of the spring, he is 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in eight innings. Before today’s game the Red Sox made the following moves to trim their roster down.

  • C Tyler Heineman optioned to Triple-A Worcester
  • LHP Joe Jacques optioned to Triple-A Worcester
  • RHP Justin Hagenman reassigned to Minor League camp
  • LHP Jorge Benitez reassigned to Minor League camp
  • LHP Cam Booser reassigned to Minor League camp
  • INF Nick Sogard reassigned to Minor League camp
  • INF Jamie Westbrook reassigned to Minor League camp
  • INF Nick Yorke reassigned to Minor League camp
  • INF/OF Dalton Guthrie reassigned to Minor League camp

Red Sox Roster Moves By The Numbers

C – Tyler Heineman

Heineman this spring played in eight games and hit .385 with a .852 OPS; he had one RBI, four runs scored, and two walks. He last played on Saturday going 1-2 with an RBI, and a run scored.

LHP – Joe Jacques

Jacques this spring appeared in six games going 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA, a 3.00 WHIP, and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. He last pitched yesterday against the Yankees going 0.1 innings giving up a run on a hit, he walked one and didn’t record a strikeout.

RHP – Justin Hagenman

Hagenman appeared in seven games going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.65 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings. He last played on Saturday going two innings, he didn’t allow a run on a hit; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out one.

LHP – Jorge Benitez

Benitez received high praise this spring and will be someone to watch in the minors. In seven games he went 0-1 with a 2.35 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 7.2 innings. Benitez last pitched yesterday against the Yankees going two innings giving up a hit, he didn’t allow a run or issue a walk and he struck out four.

LHP – Cam Booser

Booser appeared in seven games going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA, a 0.50 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in eight games. He last pitched on Saturday against Baltimore going one inning, he didn’t allow a run, a hit, or walk anyone, and he struck out two.

INF – Nick Sogard

Sogard this spring played in 16 games and hit .304 with a 1.022 OPS; he had two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, four runs scored, three walks, and one stolen base. He last played yesterday against the Braves going 0-1 with a strikeout.

INF – Jamie Westbrook

Westbrook has played in 16 games, and he hit .286 with a .965 OPS; he had one double, two home runs, two RBI, four runs scored, and four walks. Yesterday against the Braves he went 0-3.

INF – Nick Yorke

Yorke is the fifth-ranked player in the Red Sox system by ITD. In 15 games this spring, he hit .091 with a .322 OPS; he had two runs scored, and three walks. Yesterday against the Braves he went 0-1 with a strikeout. He played in the Spring Breakout game on Saturday going 2-2 with a double, and an RBI.

INF/OF – Dalton Guthrie

Guthrie this spring has played in ten games and hit .222 with a .433 OPS; he had five RBI, and one run scored. He last played yesterday against Atlanta.
