Boston Red Sox Extend Rookie

The Boston Red Sox haven’t gotten off to the expected start, starting 1-4. Tonight they play the middle game of their three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox will have newly extended ace Garrett Crochet on the mound for tonight’s game. Ahead of the game today, they announced they’ve extended rookie Kristian Campbell to an eight-year, $60 million extension. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus with a club option of $19 million in 2033 ($4 million buyout) and $21 million in 2034. In five games this season, he is hitting .375 with a 1.188 OPS. He has two doubles, a home run, two RBI, and four runs scored.

Kristian Campbell

The Red Sox drafted Campbell in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB draft out of Georgia Tech. In college, he played in 45 games, hitting .376 with a 1.033 OPS. He had 16 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 24 RBI, and 50 runs scored. In 2023, he played for the Red Sox rookie ball team and High-A Greenville. He hit .309 with a .911 OPS in 22 games. Campbell had four doubles, two triples, a home run, five RBI, and nine runs scored. Last season, he shot up the system playing in 115 games between High-A Greenville, Double-A Portland, and Triple-A Worcester. He hit .330 with a .997 OPS. Campbell had 32 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs, 77 RBI, 94 runs scored, and 24 stolen bases.
