A Detroit Tigers Prospect Named Player of the Week for 9/2-9/8

The Detroit Tigers minor league affiliates last week combined to go 15-9 and outscored their opponents combined 127-106. Their Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mud hens were the only team to have a losing week going 2-4, and were outscored 40-20. Double-A Erie went 4-2 and outscored their opponent 40-20. The A-level affiliates ended their season with High-A West Michigan going 5-1 and outscored their opponent 23-17 and Single-A Lakeland went 4-2 outscoring their opponent 30-19; Lakeland begins their playoffs today with first pitch at 6:30 PM EST. INF/OF Carlos Mendoza took home Hitter of the Week honors for Double-A Erie in the Eastern League as he went 11-27 for a .407 average in six games last week with four doubles, a home run, three RBI, eight runs scored, four walks, and a stolen base. This season he is hitting .267 with a .758 OPS; he has five home runs, 46 RBI, 83 runs scored, and 33 stolen bases across three levels. At Erie he is hitting .273 with a .775 OPS; he has five home runs, 46 RBI, 82 runs scored, 66 walks, and 32 stolen bases.

Carlos Mendoza Career

Mendoza signed as an international free agent with the Tigers. His first appearance in the Tigers system was for their Dominican Summer League team playing in 68 games hitting .296 with a .807 OPS; he had six doubles, seven triples, 21 RBI, 55 runs scored, 25 stolen bases, and 46 walks. In 2021 he played for their rookie league team, Single-A Lakeland, and Double-A Erie playing in 49 games hitting .343 with a .936 OPS; he had six doubles, two triples, one home run, 15 RBI, 42 runs scored, 15 stolen bases, and 40 walks. In 2022 he played at High-A West Michigan and Single-A Lakeland playing in 99 games hitting .266 with a .769 OPS; he had 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 34 RBI, 59 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 78 walks. In 2023 he played at West Michigan and Lakeland again in 69 games he hit .251 with a .705 OPS; he had 16 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 46 RBI, 83 runs scored, 33 stolen bases, and 68 walks.
