Last week, the Boston Red Sox minor league affiliates went 15-10 and combined to outscore their opponents 129-109. Their Triple-A affiliate the Worcester Red Sox went 5-1 and outscored their opponents 46-23. Double-A Portland went 4-3 and outscored their opponent 25-20. The two A-level affiliates in Greenville and Salem wrapped up their season with both teams going 3-3 each, both were outscored as well; Greenville was outscored 22-21 and Salem was 44-37. One of their prospects had the best weeks of his career as RHP Richard Fitts was named Pitcher of the Week in the International League as well as making his big-league debut. Fitts last week got the start on Monday picking up the win by going six shutout innings and giving up two hits; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out five, then on Sunday in his debut, he went 5.2 innings giving up two unearned runs on six hits; he walked one and struck out two. This season at Worcester, he is 9-5 in 24 appearances, with 23 coming as starts with a 4.17 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 111 strikeouts in 116.2 innings.
RHP Richard Fitts Career
Fitts was drafted by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Auburn. He finished his college career going 6-6 with a 5.23 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, a 2.8 BB/9, and an 8.0 k/9 in 117 innings. In 2022 he made his debut in the Yankees system pitching at Single-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley making 22 starts going 7-8 with a 3.70 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, a 1.6 BB/9, and a 10.5 K/9 in 112 innings. In 2023 he pitched at Double-A Somerset making 27 starts going 11-5 with a 3.48 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, a 2.5 BB/9, and a 9.6 K/9 in 152.2 innings. The Red Sox acquired him this past offseason in the trade that sent Alex Verdugo to the Yankees.
