Last week, the Boston Red Sox minor league affiliates went 10-15 and were outscored 99-86 combined by their opponents. Their Triple-A affiliate the Worcester Red Sox went 2-5 and were outscored 36-22. Their Double-A affiliate the Portland Sea Dogs went 1-5 and were outscored 34-24. High-A Greenville had the best week going 4-2 and outscored their opponent 23-13. Finally, the Single-A affiliate the Salem Red Sox split their series and outscored their opponent 17-16. The prospect who earned player of the week honors was RHP Juan Daniel Encarnacion who was named Pitcher of the Week for the South Atlantic League playing for the Greenville Drive. He got the start on Saturday going five shutout innings, he didn’t allow a hit either; he hit a batter, walked one, and struck out six. This season through five starts he is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts in 22 innings.
RHP Juan Daniel Encarnacion Career
Encarnacion was signed by the Red Sox on September 3, 2018. In his first season in 2019, he played for the Red Sox in the Dominican Summer League making 14 starts he went 0-5 with a 3.86 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 56 innings. In 2020 he didn’t play with the minor league season canceled due to COVID. In 2021 he played in the Red Sox rookie league making 12 appearances with ten of those coming as starts, he went 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. In 2022 he pitched at High-A Greenville and Single-A Salem making 26 appearances with 25 of them as starts going 10-5 with a 4.05 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and 129 strikeouts in 113.1 innings. In 2023 he pitched at Greenville making 24 appearances with 21 of those as starts going 4-9 with a 6.32 ERA, a 1.51 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts in 99.2 innings.
