Two Chicago Cubs Prospects Named to the Futures Game

The Chicago Cubs have seven players in June’s ITD top 100 prospect lists: Cade Horton, Owen Caissie, James Triantos, Matt Shaw, Moises Ballesteros, Kevin Alcantara, and Jefferson Rojas. The game will be played on July 13th at 1:15 PCT.

OF – Owen Caissie – Iowa Cubs

Caissie is ITD’s 41st-ranked prospect in June, and The Cubs 2nd ranked prospect. Caissie was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2020 Draft, going 45th overall. The 21-year-old has played in 74 games in Triple-A for the Cubs this year in Iowa. In the 74 games, he has scored 35 runs, had 76 hits, 17 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 45 RBIs, 47 walks, six steals, and struck out 90 times. This year, he is slashing .279/.390/.445 with a .835 OPS.

2B/SS – Matt Shaw – Tennessee Smokies

Matt Shaw is the Cubs’ third-ranked prospect overall and is the 42nd-ranked prospect for ITD in June. He was the 13th overall pick by the Cubs in the first round of the 2023 Draft. He has spent the entire year in Double-A with the Tennessee Smokies. He has played in 68 games this year with 43 runs scored, 61 hits, nine doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 35 RBIs, 40 walks, 19 steals, and struck out 59 times. This year, he is slashing .251/.361/.428 with a .789 OPS.

C/1B – Moises Ballerestos – Tennessee Smokies

Ballerestos is the Cubs’ sixth-ranked prospect overall and was the 95th-ranked ITD prospect in June. Ballerestos is not playing in the actual game but will participate in the skills competition. The 20-year-old Venezuelan has recently been called up to play for the Iowa Cubs after raking down in Double-A with the Tennessee Smokies. So far this year, he has played in a combined 68 games with 33 runs scored, 76 hits, 14 doubles, one triple, ten home runs, 46 RBIs, 25 walks, 42 strikeouts, and one stolen base. He has slashed .313/.378/.502 with a .880 OPS on the season.
