The Toronto Blue Jays are getting set for a three-game series against an American League East division rival the New York Yankees, it will be the home opener for the Yankees, and they will have former Blue Jay Marcus Stroman taking the ball as he faces Yusei Kikuchi who is making his second start of the season and is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA. The Blue Jays are coming off a rough series against the Houston Astros in which they dropped two out of three after splitting their opening series with the Tampa Bay Rays two games apiece. Before first pitch today against the Yankees the Blue Jays made the following roster moves.

  • RHP Wes Parsons designated for assignment

Blue Jays Moves By The Numbers

Paolo Espino

Espino was drafted by the then-Cleveland Indians in the tenth round of the 2006 MLB draft. He jumped around going from the Indians to the Washington Nationals before landing with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2017 where he made his big-league debut on May 19th against the Chicago Cubs going four innings and giving up three runs, two earned runs on five hits; he didn’t walk anyone and struck out three. He was purchased by the Texas Rangers on August 26th of that same and pitched for them as well ending the season making 12 appearances with two as starts going 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA, a 6.91 FIP, a 1.37 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts in 24 innings. He would then bounce around the minors again between the Rangers and Brewers before ending up with the Washington Nationals where he pitched from 2020-2023 appearing in 82 games with 39 of those coming as starts going 5-14 with a 4.91 ERA, a 4.72 FIP, a 1.35 WHIP, and 194 strikeouts in 233 innings. Last season with the Nationals he struggled appearing in only three games posting a 24.75 ERA, a 7.26 FIP, a 4.25 WHIP, and three strikeouts in four innings. He signed with Toronto on December 21, 2023.

Wes Parsons

Parsons made his debut on August 9, 2018, for the Atlanta Braves facing the Washington Nationals going five innings and giving up four earned runs on six hits; he walked three and struck out three while taking the loss; he ended that season making just that one start. In 2019 he pitched for the Braves and Colorado Rockies making 32 appearances going 1-2 with a 5.45 ERA, a 6.65 FIP, a 1.76 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 34.2 innings. He pitched in Korea in 2021 and 2022 before signing with the Blue Jays on May 8, 2023. Last season, with Toronto he made one start going 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA, an 11.26 FIP, a 3.25 WHIP, and three strikeouts in four innings. This season he made two appearances with a 10.80 ERA, an 8.83 FIP, a 1.60 WHIP, and two strikeouts in five innings.
