St. Louis Cardinals Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cardinals played the Houston Astros Thursday and lost 9-1 in Grapefruit League action. They played today Saturday 3/23 against the Washington Nationals at 1:05 PM after this game they will have three spring games remaining before they start the regular season. They open the season on the road when they go and face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, March 28th. Before today’s spring training game, they have announced several moves to clean up the roster ahead of their first regular season game.

1B – Alfonso Rivas III

Rivas III was optioned this morning to Triple AAA Memphis Redbirds. This spring he played in 22 games, with six runs scored, three doubles, three RBIs, five walks, and slashed .194/.356/.278 with a .634 OPS this spring. Last season he played 48 big league games eight with the San Diego Padres and 40 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Over the 48 games last year he slashed .229/.303/.422 with a .725 OPS combined.

RHP – Nick Robertson

Robertson was optioned this morning to the Memphis Redbirds the Triple AAA team for the Cardinals. This spring he appeared in eight games, throwing eight innings, striking out nine, with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP. Last year Robertson played 18 games nine apiece between the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. He started one game last year for the Red Sox. He pitched 22.1 innings with a 0-1 record, 26 strikeouts, nine walks, a 6.04 ERA, and a 1.75 WHIP combined between both teams.

1B – Luken Baker

Baker was also optioned to the Memphis Redbirds this morning ahead of today’s game. In the spring Baker had 44 at-bats, scored two runs, one home run, six RBIs, and slashed .205/.250/.295 with a .545 OPS. Last season with the Cardinals he played in 33 games with, nine runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 13 walks, and slashed .209/.313/.314 with a .627 OPS.

2B – Jared Young

Young will be heading to Triple AAA Memphis today as he was optioned ahead of the game this morning. Young this spring has played in 22 games with two runs scored, one double, one RBI, 11 strikeouts, one steal, and slashed .081/.244/.108 with a.352 OPS. Last year he played in 16 games for the Division rival Chicago Cubsc, he had three triples, two home runs, eight RBIs, three walks, two steals, and slashed .186/.255/.465 with a .720 OPS.
