Series Recap: Texas Rangers at St. Louis Cardinals 7/29-7/31

After being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays, the Texas Rangers moved forward with a three-series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium from Monday to Wednesday. Monday, July 29

The Rangers opened the road series with a 6-3 win over the Cardinals in the series opener on Monday night. Texas improved to 52-55, while St. Louis fell to 54-52. Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings and gave up six hits, two earned runs, and two strikeouts. Meanwhile, Cardinals starting pitcher Andre Pallante pitched five innings and gave up seven hits, three earned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. After two scoreless innings, Texas got on the board in the top of the third inning. Corey Seager doubled on a sharp ground ball to Lars Nootbaar. Josh Smith scored for a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals split the series with the Rangers with a lopsided 8-1 win in the middle game on Tuesday night. St. Louis improved to 55-52, while Texas fell to 52-56. Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn pitched five innings and gave up three hits, one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Rangers starting pitcher Max Scherzer… pitched four innings and gave up three runs, one walk, and five strikeouts. The Cardinals got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Masyn Winn homered on a fly ball to left-center field for a 1-0 lead. The Rangers tied the game at one apiece in the top of the second inning. Wyatt Langford homered on a fly ball to left field to tie the game 1-1. The Cardinals regained the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Brandon Crawford doubled on a line drive to Adolis Garcia. Matt Carpenter scored for a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals added a run in the bottom of the third inning. Lars Nootbaar doubled on a line drive to Adolis Garcia. Alec Burleson scored for a 3-1 lead.
