The Seattle Mariners entered the season without Troy Taylor or Matt Brash in their bullpen. The good news was that they wouldn’t be without them for long. The expectation was that both pitchers would return by May. The Mariners are now reinstating Troy Taylor from the 15-day injured list. They are also designating Casey Lawrence for assignment in order to make room.

Casey Lawrence
In a corresponding move, Casey Lawrence has been designated for assignment. He appeared in one game against Houston on April 9th. He threw three innings of relief, picking up the win. With the DFA, the Mariners’ 40-man roster now sits at 39.
While the bullpen did a fantastic job this last homestand, going 5-1 with a 1.85 ERA and .584 OPS, having Brash and Taylor back will be comforting for the team. They can be trusted in high-leverage situations and can give Gregory Santos and Andres Munoz a break. Brash likely won’t be too far behind unless he suffers a setback. He made his first relief appearance with Tacoma on Sunday.
