Eugenio Suarez
The Mariners have been in talks to acquire Suarez for a week, finally getting the deal on deadline eve. He has been one of the Mariners’ top targets this deadline. Eugenio Suarez is hitting .248 with a .898 OPS. He also has 18 doubles, 36 home runs, 64 runs, and 87 RBIs. Suarez had become a fan favorite when he was with the Mariners from 2022-2023, but the Mariners front office decided that at the time he would cost too much.
Suarez started his tenure slow with the Diamondbacks and was almost cut twice in 2024, but he started to pick it up. He has shown no signs of slowing down and will now join the Mariners, who have the MLB Home Run Leader in Cal Raleigh.
Tyler Locklear
The Seattle Mariners recently called Locklear up prior to the trade. He had been crushing things down with Triple-A Tacoma. The 24-year-old is slashing .425/.495/.825 with a whopping 1.320 OPS, nine home runs, and 33 RBI in 20 games in July. He did not appear in a game for the Mariners this season, but struggle in his 16 games in the Majors last season.
Hunter Cranton
The 24-year-old reliever has pitched in 10 games between the ACL Mariners and High A Everett AquaSox this season. He’s logged a 0.90 ERA in 10 innings. Cranton was drafted out of Kansas by the Mariners with a third-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Juan Burgos
The 25-year-old made his major league debut with the Mariners earlier this season. In fact, he has now pitched at Double-A Arkansas, Triple-A Tacoma and with the Mariners this season. Between Arkansas and Tacoma, Burgos has a 0.87 ERA in 31.0 innings with 31 strikeouts. In the Majors, he pitched in 6.2 innings while appearing in 4 games and striking out 8 batters.
Seattle Mariners
Reuniting with Eugenio Suarez clearly pushes the Mariners toward their goal of making a deep run at the playoffs. With Raleigh having a career year and the American League wide open, this season could be the Mariners’ best chance to do so. The Mariners’ ownership certainly has been more flexible with the budget this time around. The Mariners will now feature an imposing lineup to go with their elite rotation. Though that still doesn’t guarantee the Mariners a playoff spot as they are currently tied with the Texas Rangers for the third AL Wild Card spot and they sit five games back of Houston.
Arizona Diamondbacks
For a while, the D-Backs were flirting with the idea of selling or buying. Ultimately, they decided that the wise option was the former and they traded both of their corner infielders with the Mariners. They’ll look to rebuild with a young core heading into next season, with Burgos and Locklear likely being a part of that.
