When Was Jorbit Vivas Drafted?

In the 2017 international signing period, Jorbit Vivas signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, receiving a $300,000 signing bonus. When he signed, Vivas was not ranked among MLB.com’s top prospects. Over time, however, Vivas has settled into his role as a middle infielder and a menace to right-handed pitchers.

2018

Vivas began his professional career in the Dominican Summer League with the Dodgers’ affiliate team. He appeared in 51 games and finished with a disappointing slash line of .222/.350/.296, 11 doubles, one triple, 11 RBIs, 16 stolen bases, 26 walks, and 35 strikeouts.

2019

Vivas had an impressive bounce-back season in 2019. He continued playing rookie ball in the Arizona and Pioneer Leagues, playing 54 games. He also improved his stat line considerably, batting .327/.410/.472 with 17 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 32 RBIs, ten stolen bases, 19 walks, and 31 strikeouts.

2021

Vivas hoped to continue his success in 2020, but the minor league season would be canceled due to the pandemic. He didn’t miss a beat in 2021, moving from the Low-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to the High-A Great Lakes Loons. He finished the season batting .312/.396/.496 with 26 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 87 RBIs, eight stolen bases, 40 walks, and 55 strikeouts. That winter, Vivas would also be added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

2022

In his next season, Vivas would continue showing the Dodgers why he belonged in the major leagues. He spent all of 2022 playing for the Great Lakes Loons, further proving his readiness for the next level of competition. He finished the year hitting .269/.374/.401 with 19 doubles, seven triples, ten home runs, 66 RBIs, two stolen bases, 63 walks, and 58 strikeouts.

2023

The Dodgers’ front office saw something in the young infielder because the 2023 season would see Vivas optioned to the AA Tulsa Drillers. He played most of the season in Tulsa, slashing .280/.391/.436 over 109 games. That was good enough for another promotion, as the Dodgers then optioned Vivas to the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers, where he finished the season hitting .226/.339/.294 over 26 games. On both teams, Vivas racked up a combined 25 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 63 RBIs, 25 stolen bases, 69 walks, and 71 strikeouts.
