Gilbert played for Houston’s High-A affiliate in Asheville and Double-A Corpus Christi. He would be traded to the New York Mets as a part of the Justin Verlander trade, and he played for the Mets Double-A team in Binghamton. He slashed .289/.381/.487 with a .868 OPS; he had 26 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 59 RBI, 79 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 58 walks.
