Coby Mayo was born in Coral Springs, Florida, on December 10, 2001. He played high school baseball at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. He was the top-ranked third baseman and the fourth-ranked overall player in Florida. At Marjory Stoneman Douglas, in four seasons, he hit .389 with a .541 OBP; he had 63 hits, ten doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 50 RBI, 59 runs scored, 12 stolen bases, and 50 walks. Mayo was ranked the third-best third baseman in the country and the 19th-ranked overall player. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Florida.

Mayo was the 132nd ranked prospect entering the 2020 draft and would be picked fourth round by the Baltimore Orioles and signed with them over going to Florida.

In Mayo’s first season, he played 53 games for two Orioles rookie ball teams and Single-A Delmarva. He slashed .319/.426/.555 with a .981 OPS; he had 14 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 41 RBI, 46 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, and 29 walks.


2022

Mayo played again in rookie ball but also for High-A Aberdeen and Double-A Bowie. In 104 games, he slashed .247/.326/.456 with a .782 OPS; he had 20 doubles, two triples, 19 home runs, 69 RBI, 72 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 40 walks.

Mayo played for Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk last season, and in 140 games, he slashed .290/.410/.564 with a .974 OPS; he had 45 doubles, three triples, 29 home runs, 99 RBI, 84 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 93 walks.

ITD ranks Mayo as the 28th overall prospect and the Orioles third ranked prospect. He will likely start the season either at Triple-A Norfolk.
