
The Pittsburgh Pirates are wrapping up their series against the Toronto Blue Jays today. On Friday, they will start a series against the Colorado Rockies at home, and they’ll do so with a fresh arm. The Pirates announced today they will be calling up second-ranked prospect and the seventh overall prospect in baseball, right-handed pitcher Bubba Chandler. Chandler this season has made 24 starts at Triple-A Indianapolis, going 5-6 with a 4.05 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 121 strikeouts in 100 innings. The Pirates’ starting pitchers rank 11th in baseball with a 3.93 ERA, tenth with a 4.01 FIP, ninth with a 1.22 WHIP, and seventh with a 9.7 WAR. Pirates fans will get a treat in the Rockies series with Chandler pitching Friday and then Paul Skenes gets the ball on Sunday.

Bubba Chandler
The Pirates drafted Chandler in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He’s made 89 appearances with 83 of those coming as starts since joining the organization. He is 26-18 with a 3.73 ERA, a 1.29 WHIP, and 457 strikeouts in 372 innings. Chandler was the 59th-ranked prospect by Baseball America and 93rd by MLB.com entering the 2024 season. He pitched in last season’s Futures Game, going one scoreless inning, giving up one hit; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out one.
