Philadelphia Phillies Lose Two Stars in Loss

The Philadelphia Phillies tonight lost to the Miami Marlins to start their four-game series 7-4. Still, they may have lost more than that as first baseman Bryce Harper limped off the field with a hamstring injury he sustained running to first base right before the final out of tonight’s game. The other injury was designated hitter Kyle Schwarber leaving the game with left groin tightness. Harper went 1-5 with a double, and an RBI while Schwarber went 1-4 before being replaced by Brandon Marsh. The Phillies following tonight’s loss are 53-28, and are first in the National League East, and own the top spot in the National League but losing these two stars could jeopardize that. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.

1B – Bryce Harper

Harper this season has played in 75 games and has a slash line of .305/.402/.585 with a .987 OPS; he has 19 doubles, 20 home runs, 57 RBI, 52 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 47 walks. Harper since joining the Phillies has played in 656 games hitting .287 with a .938 OPS; he’s had 163 doubles, six triples, 142 home runs, 425 RBI, 439 runs scored, 62 stolen bases, and 421 walks. He won the MVP in 2021 and since joining the Phillies is a two-time Silver Slugger and a one-time All-Star.

DH – Kyle Schwarber

Schwarber this season has played in 78 games with a slash line of .250/.375/.449 with a .824 OPS; he has eight doubles, 17 home runs, 49 RBI, 60 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 59 walks. Since joining the Phillies he’s played in 393 games hitting .216 with a .823 OPS; he has 48 doubles, four triples, 110 home runs, 247 RBI, 268 runs scored, 14 stolen bases, and 271 walks. He was an All-Star and won the Silver Slugger in 2022.

Next Up

The Phillies will play the second game of their four-game series against the Marlins tomorrow. The Phillies will have Cristopher Sanchez on the mound facing off against Kyle Tyler for Miami. Hopefully, both Schwarber and Harper are in the lineup for the game tomorrow night.
