Mets Option Luisangel Acuña, Promote Travis Jankowski

The Mets optioned second baseman Luisangel Acuña to Triple-A Syracuse. Acuña, a top prospect acquired in the Max Scherzer trade in 2023, is hitting .241 with a .576 OPS. He had six doubles, six RBI, 23 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, and ten walks.

To fill the open roster spot, the Mets selected the contract of veteran outfielder Travis Jankowski. The speedy right fielder brings solid defense and base-running to the table. He has slashed .200/.263/.286 in Syracuse this season and has appeared in 702 major league games over 11 seasons. His versatility will give the Mets valuable depth in the outfield.

Jose Siri Moved to 60-Day Injured List

The Mets also officially transferred Jose Siri from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. Siri suffered a left tibia fracture earlier this month, and the team expects him to miss significant time. By moving Siri to the 60-day IL, the Mets opened a 40-man roster spot to accommodate Jankowski’s addition.

Siri had provided strong defense in center field and occasional power at the plate. However, his injury forces the Mets to lean more on platoon options like Jankowski and Harrison Bader moving forward.

Mets Sign Richard Lovelady, Option Tyler Zuber

In a move to bolster their bullpen depth, the Mets signed free-agent left-hander Richard Lovelady. The 29-year-old previously pitched for the Blue Jays earlier this season, going 0-1 with a 21.60 ERA, a 2.40 WHIP, and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

The Mets optioned right-hander Tyler Zuber. Zuber, in his lone appearance, went two innings, giving up two runs on three hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out three.
