Eight Detroit Tigers Prospects Named to Arizona Fall League

The Detroit Tigers are currently in their chase for a postseason berth. In the minor leagues, their seasons have wrapped up with Triple-A Toledo finishing 69-80. Double-A Erie won the Eastern League Championship on Tuesday night after a 77-58 regular season then going 4-1 in the playoffs. High-A West Michigan finished 68-63. Finally, Single-A Lakeland made the playoffs going 80-50 but lost in the Championship in three games to the Palm Beach Cardinals. Now eight prospects will be heading to the Arizona Fall League to play with the Scottsdale Scorpions and they are catcher/first baseman Thayron Liranzo, catcher/first baseman Josue Briceño, shortstop Peyton Graham, RHP’s Eric Silva, Rayner Castillo, Wilmer Flores, CJ Weins, and LHP Jake Miller. Liranzo is the only prospect in the Tigers’ top ten and he is also the 96th-ranked overall prospect by ITD.

C/1B – Thayron Liranzo

Liranzo was acquired by the Tigers are the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Jack Flaherty trade, since joining the organization he played in 26 games at High-A West Michigan he hit .315 with a 1.031 OPS; he had seven doubles, and five home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored, and 26 walks. He played in the 2024 Futures Game going 0-1 with a walk.

C/1B – Josue Briceño

Briceño was signed in January of 2022 by the Tigers. This season he played at Lakeland, in 40 games he hit .278 with a .758 OPS; he had five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 22 RBI, 21 runs scored, one stolen base, and 22 walks.

RHP – Eric Silva

Silva was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, he was acquired in the trade for Mark Canha at the trade deadline, he made 13 appearances at Erie going 0-2 with a 5.60 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, a 3.1 BB/9, and a 9.2 K/9 in 17.2 innings.

RHP – Rayner Castillo

Castillo was signed by the Tigers in January 2021. This season he made 16 starts between rookie ball and Single-A going 4-2 with a 2.56 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, a 2.9 BB/9, and a 7.2 K/9 in 70.1 innings.

RHP – Wilmer Flores

Flores was signed to a minor league contract on July 10, 2020, by the Tigers. This season he made 20 appearances with two of those coming as starts between Lakeland, West Michigan, and Toledo going 2-3 with a 7.84 ERA, a 1.97 WHIP, a 7.3 BB/9, and an 8.4 K/9 in 31 innings. He pitched in the 2022 Futures Game going 0.2 innings giving up one run on one hit.

SS – Peyton Graham

Graham was drafted in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. This season he played in 64 games between Single-A, High-A, and Double-A, he hit .202 with a .629 OPS; he had eight doubles, two home runs, 18 RBI, 23 runs scored, ten stolen bases, and 37 walks.

LHP – Jake Miller

Miller was drafted in the eighth round of the 2022 MLB Draft. This season he made 24 appearances with three of those coming as starts, he went 9-3 with a 1.85 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP, a 1.8 BB/9, and a 10.7 K/9 in 87.1 innings.

RHP – CJ Weins

Weins was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, he was acquired by the Tigers in the trade that sent Trey Wingenter to Boston. He pitched at Lakeland, West Michigan, and Erie once he joined the Tigers system, he appeared in 16 games going 2-1 with a 2.19 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.
