Draft Player Profile: Hagen Smith

Hagen Smith was born in Tyler, Texas on August 19, 2003. He played high school baseball at Bullard High School in Bullard, TX. He was the top-ranked LHP and the fourth overall player in Texas in 2021. In high school he played in 73 games, at the plate he hit .289 with nine doubles, five triples, 35 RBI, and 34 runs scored. On the mound, he appeared in 27 games going 14-1 with a 1.16 ERA, nine complete games, eight shutouts, a 0.75 WHIP, and 258 strikeouts in 120.1 innings. Smith was the 12th-ranked LHP nationally and the 71st overall player in the country. He committed to play college baseball at the University of Arkansas.

LHP – Hagen Smith

Smith in his first season at Arkansas in 2022 made 20 appearances with 15 of those coming as starts, he went 7-2 with a 4.66 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 90 strikeouts in 77.1 innings. In 2023 in his second season, he made 18 appearances with 11 of those coming as starts going 8-2 with a 3.64 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and 109 strikeouts in 71.2 innings. This season he’s made 15 starts going 9-1 with a 1.48 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP, and 154 strikeouts in 79 innings; he recorded a 17-strikeout game against Oregon State back on February 23rd and finished with ten or more strikeouts in a game in 11 of his 15 starts. He is first in the country in ERA, fourth in WHIP, and second in strikeouts. Entering play today his college career stat line he is 24-5 with a 3.24 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 353 strikeouts.

Scouting Report

Smith is 6-3 weighing 225 lbs. He is the sixth-ranked prospect by ITD entering the draft and the second-ranked pitcher. ITD currently has him going to the St. Louis Cardinals at the seventh pick.
