The Detroit Tigers last night snapped a five-game skid as they picked up a 6-5 walk-off win behind a two-out wall ball single by Wenceel Perez that brought home Parker Meadows; Meadows tripled earlier in the inning to bring home Ryan Vilade to tie the game at 5-5. Today for the finale the Tigers are calling up LHP Brant Hurter from Triple-A Toledo to make his big league debut. Hurter won’t start but he’ll be the first one out of the bullpen and be in a bulk role for the Tigers.
LHP – Brant Hurter
Hurter was drafted by the Tigers in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft. In his three seasons in the system he has appeared in 70 games with 62 of them coming as starts he is 15-17 with a 4.04 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, a 2.3 BB/9, and a 10.3 K/9 in 296 innings. This season at Triple-A Toledo he is 2-4 in 19 appearances with 18 of those coming as starts with a 5.80 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, a 2.9 BB/9, and an 8.8 K/9 in 71.1 innings. Not great numbers but he’s coming off his best start of the season in which he went seven shutout innings surrendering only one hit; he didn’t issue a walk but did hit a batter and struck out six en route to a win. He wasted no time rising through the system, in 2022 he pitched at Single-A Lakeland, High-A West Michigan, and Double-A Erie. In 2023 he pitched at Erie all season.
