The Detroit Tigers today will wrap up their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Tigers have dropped eight of their last nine games. They are averaging 2.8 runs per game while allowing 6.7 runs per game over that stretch. As they look to get back on track today, they are recalling right-handed pitcher Troy Melton to start today’s game as he makes his big-league debut. To make room for Melton, the Tigers are placing left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal on the paternity list. To also make room on the 40-man roster, the Tigers have designated outfielder Brewer Hicklen for assignment. The Tigers expect to activate Skubal after Friday’s game, making him available to pitch on Saturday. Melton ranks as the Tigers’ tenth overall prospect and third among their pitching prospects.
