The Detroit Tigers today salvaged a series split against the Boston Red Sox with an 8-4 win in extra innings. The Tigers got a win to start the series behind a brilliant pitching performance by Jack Flaherty then lost the middle two games before pitching up the win today. The offense managed to scored 19 runs in the series. The story of this season has been the Detroit offense as they have managed to score 4.2 runs a game which is tied for 17th in baseball, part of that is first baseman Spencer Torkelson who following the game today has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo in the hopes that he can find his swing again at the plate and be of benefit to this team as they look to make a run this month to get back into the playoff race. The corresponding move for Torkelson is it appears that Justyn-Henry Malloy the Tigers seventh ranked prospect by ITD will be heading to Detroit to make his big league debut. There was much speculation today that this move was coming especially after both Torkelson and Malloy were held out of their lineups for the Tigers and Mud Hens.
