Detroit Tigers Roster Moves 2/5

Detroit Tigers Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Detroit Tigers are just nine days away from Pitchers and Catchers reporting to Lakeland, FL for Spring Training. We are also just 52 days away from Opening Day and today the Tigers made the following roster moves as they get set to kick things off for the 2024 season.

  • Claimed LHP Kolton Ingram off waivers from the Angels
  • Designated INF Nick Maton for assignment
  • RHP Devin Sweet cleared waiver and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo

Roster Moves By The Numbers

Kolton Ingram

Ingram was originally drafted by the Tigers in the 37th round of the 2019 draft. He spent his first season playing for the Tigers rookie league team going 1-1 in 15 games with a 4.15 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. He would be released by the Tigers in 2020. With the Angels organization, he went 10-7 with a 2.99 ERA and 217 strikeouts before he made his big league debut with the Angels last season appearing in five games going 0-0 with an 8.44 ERA and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Ingram will be a pitcher that hopefully Chris Fetter can work with and make him better and fix some of the issues he had in those five games last season.

Nick Maton

Maton was acquired last season as part of the Gregory Soto trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. He played 93 games last season and slashed .173/.288/.305 with a .593 OPS; he had nine doubles, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 29 runs scored, one stolen base, and 38 walks. It just didn’t work out in Detroit and it seems that opens up more playing time for Matt Vierling and Zach McKinstry at third base.

Devin Sweet

Sweet was claimed off waivers by the Tigers from the San Francisco Giants back in January. Last season he pitched for the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners appearing in seven games going 1-0 with a 10.38 ERA and six strikeouts in 8.2 innings. In the minors last season he appeared in 36 games going 4-6 with a 2.25 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 44 innings. Another move that hopefully Fetter can work with.

Yankees Drop Game One in Familiar Fashion

The Yankees didn’t lose to Boston because of talent—they lost because of mistakes. Four errors, nine walks, and ten stranded runners turned a winnable game into a 6–3 defeat. Sloppy play has been the defining trait of their season, and it’s starting to bury their postseason hopes.
