Cincinnati Reds Roster Moves 5/29

Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cincinnati Reds enter play today seven and a half games back from first place with a record of 24-31. They have the third game of their series with the St.Louis Cardinals this afternoon. They will then head for a weekend series at Wrigley to face the Chicago Cubs. The Reds swept their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers before the three-game set with the Cardinals. They will look to take this series this afternoon to keep the momentum rolling into Chicago, where they will look to continue to climb out of the National League Central cellar. Before today’s game, the Red announced two roster moves.

OF – TJ Friedl

The Reds have activated Friedl from the 10-day injured list ahead of today’s game. Friedl has only played in six games for the Reds this year after missing the start of the year with a fractured wrist. He returned and fractured his thumb when hit by a pitch. Hopefully, he can avoid another trip to the IL this year, as the Red’s offense could use him regularly in Center Field. So far this year, in his six-game, he has had 22 at-bats, two runs scored, four hits, one double, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and four strikeouts. He has slashed .182/.250/.227 with a .477 OPS on the injured-riddled season.

1B – Mike Ford

The Reds have designated Ford for assignment Wednesday morning ahead of their game with the Cardinals. Ford has played in 17 games with 60 at-bats, two runs scored, nine hits, one triple, one home run, four RBIs, two walks, and 15 strikeouts. He has slashed .150/.177/.233 with a .410 OPS with the Reds.

Wrap Up:

The Reds getting Friedl back should be a boost to their everyday lineup. Hopefully, it’s coming at the right time, coming off the sweep of the Dodgers and a potential series victory over the Cardinals this afternoon. Heading to Wrigley to face the Cubs with positive momentum and getting an everyday starter back should give the Reds a boost as they head into June looking to climb out of the fifth spot in the National League Central.
