Cincinnati Reds Roster Moves 5/23

Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Reds entered play today eight games back in the National League Central with a 20-29 record. They have split the first two games of the series with the San Diego Padres this week. They will be hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend who are leading the National League West. Before the game today, the Reds announced three roster moves.

RHP – Emilio Pagan

The Reds have placed Pagan on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 20th, with right tricep tightness. He has pitched in 21 games so far for the Reds with a two-and-three record on the year. He has worked in 19.1 innings allowing 19 hits, nine earned runs, four home runs, seven walks, and 25 strikeouts. He has a 4.19 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP so far this season.

OF – Bubba Thompson

The Reds have designated Thompson for assignment today before the series finale with the Padres. Thompson has played in 17 games for the Reds this season with 18 at-bats. He has 5 runs scored, two hits, one double, five stolen bases, and 11 strikeouts. He has also played in nine games with the Chattanooga Lookouts this year as well since being sent down by the Reds. He has 35 at-bats, two runs scored, seven hits, one double, one home run, three RBIs, two walks, two steals, and eight strikeouts. With the Double-A team, he slashed .200/.243/.314 with a .557 OPS with Chattanooga.

RHP – Brett Kennedy

The Reds have selected the contract of Kennedy from the Louisville Bats at Triple-A today ahead of the series finale. Kennedy has pitched in eight games with eight starts, so far this year in Triple-A with a one-and-five record in 40.2 innings pitched. He has allowed 43 hits, 31 earned runs, 11 home runs, eight walks, and 32 strikeouts. He has a 6.86 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP this season.

Wrap Up:

The Reds designating Thompson is disappointing because he has some talent but has yet to be able to put it all together and be consistent throughout his career. Losing Pagan in the bullpen hurts he was a veteran manager David Bell could rely on, hopefully, he will be able to return as expected. Kennedy is an arm to throw in the bullpen while Pagan gets back to healthy, but I wouldn’t expect much from him besides eating innings in time of need over the next few weeks. The Reds are in the middle of playing the rubber game of the three-game series with the Padres tonight, before starting their three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend.
