The Cincinnati Reds have announced today, April 1st, 2025. They are sending Andrew Abbott to Triple-A on a rehab assignment. He was first placed on the 15 day Injured list on March 26th. The move was retroactive to March 24th. Abbott appeared n two games during Cactus League action this spring. He worked seven innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked one, and struck out five. He finished spring with a 2.57 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP. Last season for the Reds he made 25 starts with a 10-10 record and a 3.72 ERA. He pitched in 138 innings striking out 114 and had a 1.30 WHIP. He will pitch for the Louisville Bats in his rehab stint before rejoining the Reds rotation.
Summary
The 25 year old lefty will slide back into the back end of the rotation for the Reds once available. He’s return to the rotation will give manager Terry Francona another lefty in the mix along side Nick Lodolo. If Abbott makes it through the rehab outing without any setbacks, he could return for the home series. This series is against the division rival Pittsburgh Pirates. This three-game series starts on Friday, April 11th.
