The Boston Red Sox are getting set to start a three-game series against the Oakland A’s starting tonight. The Red Sox are coming off a 5-1 week in which they swept the Miami Marlins and took two of three from the New York Yankees over the weekend. Now they return home and currently hold a playoff spot by 1.5 games over the Kansas City Royals. Yesterday, the Red Sox optioned Cam Booser to Triple-A meaning the Red Sox are likely activating Trey Wingenter before tonight’s game. The Red Sox acquired Wingenter over the weekend with the Detroit Tigers as they sent relief pitcher CJ Weins to the Tigers. To make room on the 40-man roster for Wingenter the Red Sox designated Naoyuki Uwasawa for assignment. Another move made by the Red Sox they recalled Jamie Westbrook from Triple-A Worcester and optioned Enmanuel Valdez to Worcester.

Red Sox Roster Moves By The Numbers

LHP – Cam Booser

Booser just made his second stint with the Red Sox, he only played in one game which was a much-needed boost as he went two innings in Friday night’s win over the Yankees, he didn’t allow a run giving up one hit; he walked one and struck out one. This season with the Red Sox including Friday he’s made 27 appearances going 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA, a 2.90 FIP, a 1.17 WHIP, a 2.1 BB/9, and a 10.2 K/9 in 30 innings. In Triple-A Worcester he’s made six appearances going 2-2 with a 7.00 ERA, a 1.44 WHIP, a 1.0 BB/9, and an 18.0 K/9.

RHP – Trey Wingenter

Wingenter in his big-league career has made 90 appearances going 2-3 with a 5.28 ERA, a 3.82 FIP, a 1.25 WHIP, a 4.8 BB/9, and a 12.5 K/9 in 87 innings. In his minor league career, he’s made 197 appearances going 14-13 with a 3.48 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, a 4.1 BB/9, and an 11.3 K/9 in 230.1 innings. This season at Triple-A Toledo he’s made 26 appearances going 4-4 with a 3.31 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, a 4.7 BB/9, and a 13.2 K/9 in 32.2 innings.

RHP – Naoyuki Uwasawa

Uwasawa was purchased by the Red Sox on March 27th. He appeared in two games without recording a decision posting a 2.25 ERA, a 3.17 FIP, a 1.00 WHIP, a 4.5 BB/9, and a 6.8 K/9 in four innings. At Triple-A Worcester he had made 13 appearances with six of those as starts going 3-3 with a 6.54 ERA, a 1.64 WHIP, a 5.1 BB/9, and a 7.6 K/9 in 42.2 innings.

INF/OF – Jamie Westebrook

Westbrook made his big league debut this season for the Red Sox playing in 11 games hitting .222 with a .749 OPS; he had a double, a home run, four RBI, one run scored, and two walks. In Worcester he had played in 61 games hitting .282 with a .853 OPS; he had 17 doubles, eight home runs, 43 RBI, 32 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 30 walks.

INF – Enmanuel Valdez

Valdez played in 56 games this season with Boston hitting .226 with a .684 OPS; he had 11 doubles, six home runs, 26 RBI, 20 runs scored, one stolen base, and 14 walks. In Worcester this season he’s played in 20 games hitting .230 with a .887 OPS; he had four doubles, six home runs, ten RBI, 12 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 15 walks.
