
The Boston Red Sox, currently in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, announced today that they are signing outfielder Roman Anthony to an eight-year, $130 million contract extension. The deal is pending a physical and includes a club option, and the deal will keep Anthony in Boston through the 2034 season. The deal will start in 2026 and includes significant escalators that could take the deal to $230 million, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Anthony, this season in 46 games, is hitting .283 with a .828 OPS. He has 15 doubles, a triple, two home runs, 19 RBI, 27 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 26 walks. He entered the season as the top prospect in all of baseball. In 58 games at Triple-A Worcester, he hit .288 with a .913 OPS. He had nine doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 29 RBI, 45 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 51 walks.

Roman Anthony
The Red Sox drafted Anthony in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He spent four seasons in the Red Sox minor league system, having appeared in 303 games. Anthony hit .285 with a .879 OPS. He has 72 doubles, ten triples, 42 home runs, 170 RBI, 223 runs scored, 41 stolen bases, and 225 walks. Anthony was ranked entering the 2024 season as the 21st overall prospect by Baseball America and the 24th by MLB Pipeline. Entering this season, he was the second-ranked prospect and became the top prospect shortly into the season.
