The Athletics try to avoid a sweep against the Astros in their two-game series this afternoon. Currently, they hold a 23-32 record. Despite some strong individual performances, they sit in last place in the AL West and are eight games back from the Seattle Mariners. In fact, they have lost nine of their last ten games, posting a -87 run differential.
Before this afternoon’s game, the Athletics optioned a struggling reliever down to Triple-A. At the same time, they activated a newly acquired left-handed pitcher to the active roster in hopes of turning things around.
