Player Profile: Robby Snelling

Robby Snelling was born in Reno, Nevada on December 19, 2003. He played high school baseball at Robert McQueen High School in Reno, NV. He was the top-ranked LHP and the second-ranked overall player in Nevada. At Robert McQueen, he played football as a linebacker and quarterback, but for baseball as a senior, he finished 8-0 with a 0.56 ERA and he struck out 145 batters, at the plate he hit .450, he also has the record for most strikeouts in a game with 20 in a seven-inning game.  Snelling was ranked the fourth LHP in the country and the 13th overall player. He committed to play college baseball at Louisiana State University.

When Was Robby Snelling Drafted?

Snelling was the 16th-ranked prospect entering the 2022 draft and the ninth-ranked high school prospect. He would end up being drafted by the San Diego Padres with the 39th overall pick.

In Snelling’s first season, he played across three levels at Single-A Lake Elsinore, High-A Fort Wayne, and Double-A San Antonio. He made 22 starts going 11-3 with a 1.82 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 103.2 innings.

Future                                                                   

ITD ranks Snelling as the 38th overall prospect and the Padres second-ranked prospect. He is expected to start the season at Double-A or Triple-A in 2024.
