As the offseason continues, the Seattle Mariners have yet to make a significant roster upgrade. However, they no longer have to wait on their key arbitrary agreements. The Mariners have negotiated with Logan Gilbert, Cal Raleigh, Randy Arozarena, and George Kirby to avoid arbitration.
Arozarena, who came to the Mariners in a 2024 mid-season trade, is set to make $11.3M in 2025, according to Francys Romero. After being traded to the Mariners on July 25, 2024, Arozarena hit .231/.356/.377 in 54 games for the Mariners. In that span, he had 14 doubles and five home runs. The former ALCS MVP will likely be an integral part of the Mariners lineup in 2025, as he’ll play left field.
The Mariners agreed to settle with Cal Raleigh. He’ll make $5.6M, according to Robert Murray. Raleigh is arguably one of the best catchers in the game. In 2024, he hit .220/.312/.436 in 153 games. He also finished the season with 34 home runs, setting an MLB record for most home runs by a catcher in their first four seasons and edging out Mike Piazza by one home run.
On the pitching side, the Mariners have agreed to settle with George Kirby and Logan Gilbert. Kirby is set to make $4.3M, according to Daniel Kramer. Per Mark Feinsand, Gilbert had agreed to a $7.635M deal. The former (Kirby) pitched to a 14-11 record with a 3.53 ERA in 191 innings. He also had 179 strikeouts with an ERA+ of 104. Meanwhile, the latter (Gilbert) went 9-12 with a 3.23 ERA in 208.2 innings. Gilbert finished the 2024 season with 220 strikeouts and an ERA+ of 113.
This is all good news for the Mariners, as they have all four players at least under contract for the 2025 season. The agreements with Kirby, Gilbert, and Arozarena were lower than projected, which should create some wiggle room on the budget the Mariners have set.
