The Texas Rangers are a fun MLB team to watch. If you’re a Texas Rangers fan, you might think you know everything about the AL West team and defending World Champions but you may not be right this time around. Here are three things to know about the Texas Rangers.
3. More Than a Slogan
The Texas Rangers’ official slogan “Never Ever Quit” is more than a slogan. “Never Ever Quit” reportedly reflects the Rangers’ determination and resilience. Regardless of the Rangers fans’ potential differences on and off the field, the Rangers’ strong social media presence continues to bring people together through their love of the game.
2. For the First Time
The Texas Rangers’ top prospect, Wyatt Langford, hit his fifth home run in the Cactus League on Thursday night for his first-ever grand slam this spring. Langford hit his first grand slam in the fourth inning of the Rangers’ Spring Training game against the Cincinnati Reds at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Arizona, giving the Rangers a 7-0 lead. The Rangers went on to beat the Reds 7-4. Langford is tied for MLB’s lead with five home runs and 14 runs batted in this spring, as of March 14th. Langford’s 1.281 on-base plus slugging percentage leads the league. Langford was 1-for-4 with two strikeouts and one popout through six innings.
1. Move Along
Cole Winn is a right-handed pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization. Winn was recently optioned to the Triple-A Round Express after surrendering eight runs over 7 1/3 innings in four outings during Spring Training. Winn’s struggles essentially eliminated his far-fetched chance at making the Texas Rangers’ roster for MLB Opening Day. Of course, there’s a chance that Winn can have a solid outing or two to redeem himself, but the Rangers likely won’t wait for the right-hander to make the necessary changes for the big leagues. The Rangers might want to let go of Winn and develop fellow right-hander Brock Porter. Porter threw two strikeouts in a scoreless first inning in Thursday’s game against the Reds, by the way.
